CITIZENSHIP FOR MILITARY KIDS BORN OVERSEAS?  A U.S. Immigration Services policy memo recently sparked an outcry from military families and lawmakers, who interpreted the change as potentially denying citizenship to children of U.S. citizens born abroad.   Such children have been automatically considered U.S. citizens.

Officials noted that the update creates a new hurdle for a few military families to establish citizenship for their children born while they serve overseas.  However, the change is expected to affect only a couple dozen families a year, based on their best estimates.

HICKAM FLAK FOR SPEAKING SPANISH IN UNIFORM.   According to the  Honolulu Star-Advertiser, a 27-year-old Air Force senior airman was scolded by a customer for speaking Spanish in uniform in a Starbucks near Hickam AFB.    Xiara Mercado was waiting for her drink during lunchtime at the coffee shop; she was on the phone speaking Spanish.  As she was walking out, she said, she was tapped on the shoulder by a woman who said, “You shouldn’t be speaking Spanish. That’s not what that uniform represents.”

Mercado, who is from Puerto Rico, said she was shocked at the comment but collected her thoughts and told the woman, “I’m sorry, ma’am, the only distasteful thing here is that you are clueless to your discrimination.  Please educate yourself.  Have a nice day,” and then walked away.

Mercado’s post had received 102,000 reactions, 46,000 shares and 2,800 comments. Many posted thanks for her service and offered support.

MAGA?  According to press reports, an Army veteran allegedly choked a teenager for not removing his hat during the National Anthem. His explanation: “President Trump wanted him to do it.”

EX-OFFENDERS.  Ex-offender Erica Racz , 30, became eligible to vote again in Florida. The problem – she was required to pay all former bills –$880 she could not afford.
